I have caught the bug! I am turning 34 next Monday but was first enchanted by a Jensen a childhood friend of mine owned 25 years ago. I do not know how or why the memory popped into my head, but sure enough ebay had them. I fought against myself for the used versus new, and eventually lost to my conservative side and went with a used #75 from ebay, in good shape. I have yet to receive it but have been doing extensive research on ideas and restorations to pass the time.

I wanted to say that Rodger's collection is Museum Qaulity, and I hope my steam fever does not get to this point as my wife and kids would likely leave me in favor or someone more practical! For some reason I also felt the need to chronicle my decent into steam powered madness. It will be hard to compete with a site of this magnitude, but I have found many steamers are proud and willing to show off thier engines as well as some very useful and practical knowledge that will be invaulable in the very near future.

Kudos to you sir for your efforts!

Hi, I'm interested in building my own "Wolfgang Engineering - The Noise Maker" I would like the Rotor dimensions, diameter, thickness, slot size and angle, etc. I'm great with solidworks and I have it all drawn up, just need dimensions! If you'd like, I'll send over the drawings in PDF format that way you can just give them to a machinist and build your own...please help

Steven,

The simple answer would be YES, but you don't describe what this "methanol" burner looks like. Methanol is a little "hotter" in heat output than methylated spirits, so I would think it would work...but if you email me at: templeofsteam@yahoo.com and include a photo of this methanol burner I could give you a better educated opinion.

cheers,
Roger

dear roger,

can you also put liquid methylated spirits into a methanol burner?

Great site, full of fascinating and useful information. Please keep it going. After visiting here over the weekend, I bought a very nice Stuart Turner S50. My wife holds you responsible!

Best Regards
Steve

Hi Roger,
I very much appreciate you taking the time to open your impressive collection to the rest of the world through your web site. I find seeing all these engine especially knowing they are all in working order.

Like you, my first engine was a Fleischmann 122/3. Unlike you it is the only engine I own. I got it as a Christmas present in either 1957 or 58. It was the only present I got that Christmas because it was expensive. It was the one thing I really wanted so I put it on my Christmas list as the one and only item for that year. I enjoyed playing with it on and off for several years and then it went into hiding as I got into my teenage years.. About 10 years ago I rediscovered it and brought it out for display. The engine itself was in very good condition but the box was dry and brittle and crumbled to the touch.

My first grandson was born around that time. As soon as he got old enough to understand what it was, about 4 years old, he wanted to see it working. So we cleaned it, oiled it and fired it up. It worked perfectly. He was captivated. I now have 4 grandsons and they all love it when 'Pa' stokes up the steam engine. I get more enjoyment out of it now watching the fascination in the eyes of those boys than I ever did before.

This winter it developed a steam leak around the sight glass. I can still run it without any problem but I would like to fix the leak before it gets worse. I tried to gently loosen the screws that hold it in. The top one loosens easily but the bottom one offers some resistance. I don't want to apply a lot of force for fear of either breaking the screw or the glass. Given your extensive experience restoring the engines in your collection. I'm wondering if you can offer me any advice on this. I have to presume the leak is caused by a dried out gasket. I'd appreciate any insight you might be able to offer.

Many thanks
Rick Walsh
